Chubby Checker (original name Ernest Evans) is an American rock 'n' roll singer-songwriter, born on October 3, 1941 in Spring Gulley, South Carolina. He worked in a local poultry shop while on the job often entertained customers by singing and cracking jokes. His boss helped win an audition, so that’s how it began. Chubby Checker became the king of dance for close to five years during which time he was the first and only artist to have five albums in the nation's Top 20 at the same time. His 1961 hit "The Twist" remains the biggest-selling American dance-craze record of all time. The song is the only recording to hit number one in two separate years (1960 and 1962).
